Serving Nutritious Meals

To ensure that our children are getting the best, the Afterschool Meals Program has standards to ensure that the meals offered provide the nutrition our children need to fuel their learning and enrichment. Below is information on the meal patterns that are required for meal and snack service, along with sample menus to give you an idea of how those standards apply to actual meals.

AFTERSCHOOL MEAL GUIDANCE

MEAL PATTERN REQUIREMENTS 

To qualify for reimbursement, snacks and suppers must include, at minimum, the following:

Supper:

  • 1 serving of milk

  • 1 serving of vegetables

  • 1 serving of fruit or a 2nd serving of vegetables

  • 1 serving of grain or bread

  • 1 serving of meat or meat alternative

Snack:

  • 2 different components

  • No "liquid diet" (i.e. fruit juice and milk)
